Romantic Seaside Towns Near Seattle Offer New Accommodations
(Snohomish County, Wash.) - With 45 miles of coastline, Snohomish County (just
12 miles north of Seattle) is a fabulous choice for overnights on the
waterfront.
From trading post to seaside destination, Mukilteo was the site of the 1855
Peace Treaty signed between Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens and 82 Indian
leaders representing 22 tribes. This seaside town became Snohomish County's
first trading post. Today Mukilteo retains its friendly, old-fashioned
hospitality and welcomes visitors with its spectacular setting by the sea.
The new 70 room waterfront, Cape Cod style Silver Cloud Inn at 718 Front Street
in Mukilteo looks directly over Possession Sound. From the lobby, guests can
watch the sun set over the Olympic mountains, listen to the gentle sound of
waves and even catch an occasional view of a lazy sea lion as he fishes for
dinner on the Sound. Many rooms have fireplaces including six suites that
feature spas overlooking the water. Standard in room amenities include
refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, microwave, TV with pay movies and
Nintendo, two-line telephones with voice mail and free local calls. Hotel
facilities include complimentary guest laundry, free covered parking and Silver
Cloud breakfast. Rates from $89. For reservations, contact the Silver Cloud at
(800) 311-1461 or visit on line at www.scinns.com.
Visitors will enjoy exploring the delightful shops, restaurants, pubs and
cafes. Two local micro breweries provide a special touch. Mukilteo coffee,
roasted nearby is served at General Motor headquarters in Detroit and can be
sampled along with world famous smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels at the
Mukilteo Coffee Company Cafe.
Mukilteo State Park is a great place to fish, scuba and fly kites. Don't miss
the beautifully restored 1906 lighthouse with its French made lens which still
guides ships through Possession Sound. The lighthouse is open to the public for
touring on weekends, 12 noon - 5pm. A Washington State ferry provides the
opportunity for a great walk-on boat ride or take your car for a full day
excursion to Whidbey Island, Deception Pass or the Olympic Peninsula.
