Holden: The site of an old mine, visitors now explore tranquility, spiritual connecting and the beauty of nature at this resort retreat. By boat or seaplane, then a 12-mile bus ride on gravel roads.
Stehekin: The north end of Lake Chelan is at the base of an alpine wilderness,
Chelan National Recreation Area, a unit within North Cascades National Park. Its amenities are simple, and few vehicles are found here. A base camp for hikers, and an inviting day trip to the 312-foot Rainbow Falls. By boat or seaplane, then excursion bus. No cell phone service.
