Anthens Highlights
Athens Travel Tip
Athens' most important landmark is the Parthenon. The complex has been sitting on the
Acropolis (a small flat hill) since the 5th century. Although parts of the temples are missing, the
remains are astounding. The grounds are made of stone. They shine like glass, smoothed by the
millions of footsteps.
Museums in the city include the National Archaeological Museum, the Byzantine Museum, and
the Acropolis Museum. The route to the Acropolis runs by a flea market, more accurately a
flea-district. Street after crooked and narrow and hilly street are crammed with apparatus, ranging
from a brass steering wheel off an ancient ship to live birds, from kites to car parts, from
stained-glass windows to Marilyn Monroe memorabilia. The variety is staggering.
