Centralia Highlights
Centralia Travel Tip
Highlights in town include antique stores and the Veterans Memorial Museum, a museum
dedicated to the men and women who have honorably served the Armed Forces during peacetime
and war. Some of the 59 display cases include extensive WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam and
Persian Gulf uniforms, personal items and field equipment.
Nearby highlights include Wolf Haven International. Wolf Haven provides permanent homes
for more than 40 wolves that cannot live in the wild. This park, located on 80 acres at 3111
Offut Lake Road in Tenino, was founded as a nonprofit educational and scientific corporation in
1982. It is supported entirely by private contributions.
The wolves look lonely behind the enclosures. They also look like dogs, until you look into their
eyes. Most dogs will avert their eyes when you stare at them but not wolves. Wolves stare right
back.
A highlight at Wolfhaven is when the guides cry out to the wolves and the wolves howl in
response. It's unnerving, the sound of a wolf howling.
Wolf Haven is also a participant in the Mexican Wolf Recovery Program to reintroduce wolves
to the wild in the southwestern United States and Mexico.
