Getting to Whistler
Whistler Travel Tip
Whistler is located 75 miles from Vancouver. Auto access to the village is via the Squamish
Highway, nick-named Sea to Sky Highway because of its magnificent vistas.
The road, built on the side of a hill and susceptible to rock slides and floods, has had its
problems, however, with the recent awarding of the Winter Olympic Games, to be held in 2010,
plans to spend millions to revamp the highway are already in place.
These plans include getting ready for the 900 busses expected to travel the road during the event,
carrying a percentage of the 1,7000 visitors expected each day.
Some of the visitors will be arriving via the sixteen ferry's that are predicted to ply the scenic
Howe Sound from Richmond, BC, and Canada Place in Vancouver, to Squamish during the
event - and even sooner as the destination gains more world attention in the years before such a
monumental event gets underway.
Current visitors have BC Rail, as an option to personal automobiles. Passenger bus service from
Vancouver and the Vancouver International Airport is another option.
Tour operators bringing in visitors from the rest of the world include transportation in their
packages.
Private Airlines offer charters to Whistler.
