The Beak of the Finch

It helps when you know something about the place you are about to visit. Therefore, I certainly would recommended reading "The Beak of the Finch" by Jonathan Weiner, prior to visiting the islands. With all the animal life on the islands, the little finch can be overlooked, but to imagine that scientists actually move in and live with the animals they study and get to know them by name really made a difference in my experience of the islands.
