Getting Around Belize
Orange Walk District Travel Tip
Getting Around Belize
By Bus
Most major cities in Belize are connected via buses out of Belize City, utilizing the country's four
major highways. The highways are in good condition by Central American standards, but not a
high
priority for maintenance. In other words, the crew filling in the pothole might be two men with a
wheelbarrow.
Still, the busses are fairly clean and comfortable, low cost and frequent, which means traveling by
bus is a reasonable
way of getting around the country. Bus lines include Venus: 501.27.3354; Battys: 501.27.4924;
and Novelos:
501.27.7372., they provide service to Orange Walk, Corozal,, San Ignacio, Belmopan, Dangriga
and Punta Gorda as
well as the border town of Chetumal in Mexico and Ciudad de Melchor in Guatemala.
Reservations aren't necessary,
but probably a good idea if you are on a tight schedule.
By Auto
Auto rentals are available in the more populated cities. Companies include Ace Auto Rental:
e-mail ace@btl.net; Avis Rent A Car: e-mail avisbelize@btl.net; Budget Rent A Car: e-mail
jmagroup@btl.net; Crystal Auto Rental: e-mail crystal@btl.net; Jabiru Auto Rental: e-mail
jabiru@btl.net and Lewis Auto Rental: email lewisauto@btl.net. Customers must hold a valid
drivers license and be over 25 years old.
Taxis are available in most towns and tourist areas and fares are reasonable. However, as with all
taxis that don't come
equipped with meters ( and even some that do) establish the amount before departing.
By Domestic Air
Daily flights connect most cities in Belize. Domestic airlines include Tropic Air
(http://www.tropicair.com) and Maya Airways (http://www.mayaairways.com).
