A Day Trip to Dayton
More historic architecture and points of interest can be found in the nearby
community of Dayton. This town, 30 miles east of Walla Walla, is home to
some of Washington's most historic sites. The Columbia County Courthouse in
Dayton is the oldest working courthouse in the state, and the Dayton
Historical Depot, built in 1882 and used until 1971, is the oldest railroad
depot in the state. There are 83 Dayton homes and five commercial buildings
listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can pick up a
self-guided tour brochure at the Depot or the Dayton Chamber of Commerce.
For those interested in seeing the inside of Dayton s historic homes, there
is a Historic Homes Tour on October 7, 2001.

Dayton is also home to the four-star restaurant Patit Creek, where Chef
Bruce Heibert prepares fresh, locally-grown foods.
