Wine Connoisseurs flock to Stuttgart
Stuttgart Travel Event ( Press Release )
Stuttgart - Meeting Point 2002 for Wine Connoisseurs
Stuttgart, Germany: When the smell of onion pie, roast beef and "Schupfnudeln" are
in the air between the Stuttgart Market and Schiller Square, every
connoisseur knows that Germany's most beautiful wine festival has
opened its gates again. Not only the Swabian "Weinzahne", as wine
connoisseurs and lovers are called in common parlance, meet from
August 28 until September 8, 2002, to sit together over one (or several)
quarter-litres of wine in a cosy and convivial ambience. Whether
Trollinger, Stuttgart's most prefered red wine, Riesling or Schillerwein,
named not after the Swabian poet, but called so because of its shining
colours - the choice is difficult, for more than 350 different wines are sold
here, in Germany's largest wine-growing municipality.
To be able to taste more than just one good drop, it has become a
tradition at the Stuttgart wine festival to stroll from arbor to arbor, with a
quarter-litre glass, which one has bought at the wine festival or brought
along from home, and to stop and visit as one pleases. The
"Viertelesschlotzers" (wine connoisseurs') hunger is satisfied in the cosy
and idyllically decorated vine arbors, by eating Swabian specialities:
"Maultaschen" (stuffed pasta) with potato salad, "Spatzle" (locally-made
noodles), "Schupfnudeln" (local pasta made partly with potatoes) with
sauerkraut or pretzels are the right foundation.
For visitors in Stuttgart, who want to enjoy this cosy festival, the Stuttgart-
Marketing GmbH offers package tours, including overnight
accommodations, breakfast, welcome cocktail and the stroller pass
"Stuttgarter Weindorf".
