Edinburgh
Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, is a beautiful city built on a series of ridges. The city is very old. Even the New Town
section, with its wide boulevards and modern suburbs, is over 200 years old. Bridges and staircases and narrow
winding streets connect the old with the new.
The city's landmark is Edinburgh Castle, sitting on the summit of Castle Rock. Open to the public, this massive stone
fortress has been home to royalty since the 11th century. Famous names include Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott.
Edinburgh has held an annual three-week international festival of music and drama since 1947. This festival draws a
large crowd every year. Tourism plays a major role in the city's economy.
