Everglades
The Everglades National Park is located in southern Florida and covers an area of about
4,000
square miles. It extends from Everglade City to Fiesta Key in the Florida Keys. Most of the
terrain is marshy ground covered in saw grass. Groves of palms, mangroves, pines and cypress
flourish in small pockets throughout the park.
The sub-tropical atmosphere is ideal for the park's many species of birds and animals, such as
herons, egrets, kingfishers and alligators.
Established in 1947, the park maintains marked hiking trails and boardwalks and offers five
canoe trails.
