Lake Mead

Lake Mead is part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, a liquid oasis surrounded by desert and dazzling mountains painted in reds, rusts and golds.

Less than an hour's drive from Las Vegas, the basin of water was created when the Hoover Dam was erected on the Colorado River. A busy highway across the dam is a major connection between Nevada and the state of Arizona.
