<- Back to England Home Page England's landscape is generally flat with a few mountains in the northwest. The weather is
mainly cool and rainy even in the summer months, although snow does fall in some locations, up
to 45 inches per year in the southwest. Around eighty percent of the just under 48 million people living in England
live in cities and at times it seems they all live in London. The city is quite congested, however less than 7 million reside in London.
The country is renowned as the birthplace of famous actors, playwrights, and musicians performing in many styles, from serious drama to youth-loving rock. As for educational institutes, Oxford and Cambridge Universities, founded in the 12th and 13th
centuries, are the best known.
Getting around the country is easy, the most comfortable and scenic is via BritRail. The country's main airline, with connections to the rest of the world, is British
Airways. British Airways operates the supersonic Concorde that flies from London to New York
quicker that you can drive across the city during rush hour traffic. (Just kidding!)
