walla_green_gables.jpg "We were on a tour of the historic homes of Walla Walla and Green Gables Inn was a stop on our itinerary. Pick me up in a couple of days, I said to my companions, as soon as we stepped across the threshold. I very much would have liked to stay on, to peruse the old books in the book selves, to soak in a claw-footed tub, to sink into cloudlike bedding, to sit in front of a crackling fireplace, to pretend it was 1909" Lorry Patton.

Green Gables Inn had many uses over the years. It was built in 1909 for Rowland Hugh and Clarinda Green Smith on homestead land owned by Clarinda's parents, William O. and Mary Green, early residents of the area. It remained a private home until 1978, at which time it opened as a home for nurses. In 1990, Jim and Margaret Buchan purchased the historic home and carefully converted it to a luxurious bed and breakfast inn.

Names of the five bedrooms are adopted from the L.M. Montgomery book, "Anne of Green Gables." and uniquely decorated with antique furniture, restful accessories, personalized bath amenities, fluffy terry bathrobes, candy and seasonal fresh flowers.

Mayflowers: Tranquil and cosy, like sleeping in a garden.

Willowmere: Restful simplicity and elegance.

Birch Path: Cotton and lace with windows to the past.

Dryad's Bubble: A wall of art and French doors to a deck.

Idlewild: Gracious spacious living.

A candlelit breakfast is served on fine antique china and crystal. Seasonal fresh fruit, fresh juice, freshly baked pastries and homemade jams are always on the menu along with cold cereals and delicious hot entrees.

A full breakfast is served in the dining room at 9 AM on weekends and weekdays. In addition, a light breakfast is served at 7:30 during the week.
